Privacy Policy

Family Storybook Studio ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your family's privacy. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

1. Information We Collect

Account information

When you sign in with Google or email, we receive your name and email address. We store this to identify your account and personalize your experience.

Photos you upload

You may upload photos of family members to use as character references for AI illustration. These photos are processed to generate illustrated storybook characters and are stored securely. We do not use your photos to train AI models.

Story content

We store the stories you create, including text, illustrations, and any answers you provide during story creation. This content belongs to you.

Usage data

We collect standard usage data (pages visited, features used) to improve the product. We do not sell this data.

2. How We Use Your Information

• To generate personalized AI illustrations and story text
• To save and display your stories and characters
• To process payments via Stripe
• To send story recommendations (nudges) if you opt in
• To improve the product

3. Children's Privacy

Our service is designed for parents and caregivers to create stories for their children. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13. Parents control all account information and uploaded photos. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us directly, please contact us and we will delete it.

4. Photo Storage and Retention

Reference photos you upload are stored securely on Cloudflare R2, including in a private, access-controlled storage bucket for sensitive photos. By default, original reference photos are retained to allow character re-generation. You can request deletion of your photos at any time from the Privacy & Data section in Settings, or by contacting us.

5. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to operate the platform:

• Google (Gemini AI) — generates story illustrations from text prompts
• Anthropic (Claude) — generates story text
• Stripe — processes payments securely
• Cloudflare R2 — stores uploaded photos and generated images
• Neon — hosts our database
• Vercel — hosts our application
• Google Photos (optional) — with your explicit permission, you can import specific photos you select to build a storybook and/or export finished story illustrations to your account (see below)

Each of these services has its own privacy policy governing how they handle data.

6. Google Photos Integration

Family Storybook Studio offers two separate, optional Google Photos features, each requiring your explicit permission:

• Importing photos to build a storybook ("Album Mode"): if you choose to create a book from your own photos, you can connect Google Photos to select specific photos to use. We use Google's official Picker tool, which hands the browsing experience to Google's own interface — you choose exactly which photos to share, and we only ever receive the items you pick. We do not have general access to browse your Google Photos library, and picking is a one-time, per-book action. Photos you pick are downloaded once, lightly stylized into a storybook illustration, and the original is stored securely to allow you to regenerate the illustration later. You can revoke this access at any time from Settings, which also stops any future picking sessions.
• Exporting a finished story: if you choose to export a completed story, we upload that story's illustrations to your Google Photos account with your explicit permission.

You can disconnect Google Photos access at any time from Settings.

7. Community Library

If you choose to add your story to the Community Library, the story's title, illustrated pages, and cover image will be visible to the public. Your name, email, and reference photos are never shared. You can remove your story from the Community Library at any time.

8. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with the third-party services listed above, as necessary to operate the platform.

9. Your Rights

You may at any time:

• Request a copy of your data
• Delete your account and all associated data
• Remove reference photos from our systems
• Disconnect Google Photos access
• Opt out of story recommendation nudges

To exercise these rights, use the Privacy & Data tab in Settings or use the feedback button in the app (bottom left corner on any page).

10. Security

We use industry-standard security practices including encrypted connections (HTTPS), secure credential storage, and access controls. No system is completely secure — if you believe your account has been compromised, contact us immediately.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy as the product evolves. We will notify you of significant changes via email or an in-app notice.
