Now Grandma Can Read the Bedtime Story — From Anywhere

Here's a small thing that turned out to be a big thing.

A family friend bought my son a stack of picture books. My wife and I read them so many times we could recite them in our sleep. Then the friend did something I didn't expect: he recorded himself reading the books aloud, page by page, and posted the videos. Now my son can watch those stories narrated in a voice he knows — anytime, even when that friend is nowhere near.

It floored me. So we built it into Family Storybook Studio.

Your story, in your voice

Every story you make can now become a read-aloud video. You record the narration yourself — one page at a time, so you can re-do any page you flub — and we turn it into a real page-turning video: the cover opens, the pages curl, and your voice reads along.

And it doesn't have to be you. It can be Grandma. Or Dad on a work trip. Or an aunt two time zones away. The voice is the whole point. A child will watch a story a hundred times if it's read by someone they love.

How it works

Open a finished story and tap "Make a read-aloud video." Record each page in your own voice — play it back, re-record until it feels right. When you're done, we render the video in the background and email you when it's ready. A few minutes later, there it is.

Watch it, share it, keep it

The finished video lives right in the app. Flip on Kid Mode and you can hand your child the iPad to pick and watch their own stories — safely, with everything else tucked away. Want to share it further? One tap publishes it to your own YouTube channel — unlisted, if you like — so you can text Grandma a link.

That's the part I love most. A personalized story, illustrated with your real family, read in a familiar voice, saved as something you'll still have when your kids are grown.
